Spread the Dough

No Loaf Left Behind

Spread the Dough

Spread the Dough was founded in 2005 by Melina, a now 18 year old girl of New Hampshire. Her local bakery, Me and Ollies, committed to donating their day-old bread weekly to Melina so she could deliver it to the surrounding homeless shelters and soup kitchens. Me and Ollies stated many people had picked up bread before; however, there was a dire need for a reliable individual to pick up the bread regularly. Although Me and Ollies was ecstatic to have their bread saved every so often, they realized once every so often was hardly a relief to the baker's guilt of throwing away good food. The bread is 100% organic and has a shelf life of roughly three days. Each morning the bakers rise early to make a brand new batch. Melina came into the bakery eager to feed the hungry and stop such a horrific waste.  Melina came once or twice a week like clockwork, and soon friends were joining in on the fun. The Salvation Army Soup Kitchen and Crossroads Homeless Shelter quickly became very dependent upon these busy bees and Melina's small dream morphed into an effective operation. In three short years over 25,000+ loafs of bread have been saved from the tiny bakery in New Hampshire and counting.

As Melina grows so does Spread the Dough. She hopes to take her group with her wherever she goes to college and beyond. She believes Spread the Dough is her way of giving back to the communities who have done so much for her.
